Mat Remix with Michael Johnson
Matwork Remix with Michael Johnson
Matwork has many applications to the whole system of the entire method. I believe that it is the heart and sole of the workouts.
Matwork: It can be done daily for maintaining a fit body capable of handling any workout throw at the athlete.
Mobility: It can be diagnostic, used to evaluate range of motion, and mobility aspects of the athletes workspace in the joint.
Coordination: It is a feature to create a uniformly developed musculature system.
Posture restoration: To stretch and strengthen area of the human body that support posture when the human is upright
Breathing: When the nervous system has acquired full and safe breathing while on the mat, this acquired nervous system skill, allows the athlete to express more control, stretch, strength, power and grace in the workspace.
Fascia: The sensory organ providing feedback to your brain - (motor control unit of the brain)
In this two hour workshop I will discuss how each exercise in the Pilates Matwork can be used to improve the athletes: stretch, strength, and coordination. I am rooted in Classical Pilates and I will be teaching this workshop through a modern day mobility lens.

Lower Back Injuries & Application with Katie Yip
Lower Back Injuries & Application with Katie Yip
Pilates has often been praised for its rehabilitative benefits, particularly in addressing lower back injuries through its emphasis on “core stability” exercises. While it is beyond our scope to diagnose or treat these issues, we still play a pivotal role in providing movement-based relief to clients by working around their injuries.
As the approach to treatment of low back issues shifts from passive to active methods that prioritize exercise for prevention and treatment, understanding “core stability” principles, vital for lumbar spine stability, is essential. In this workshop you will learn the three subsystems that govern lumbar spine stability and how they work in synchrony to maintain it effectively.
Gain the skills to assess, manage, and safely incorporate exercises for clients dealing with acute or chronic lower back injuries while adhering to the core tenets of the Pilates method. You will explore concepts in movement tolerance, workload tolerance, and understand how to logically progress and scale training to meet the client at their level.
Through interactive sessions, we’ll transition theory into practical application, ensuring immediate takeaways and hands-on experience applying the learned principles.
Join us in this intimate workshop limited to 10 participants to maximize engagement and learning!
